As we are organising an evening of reconciliation. As we approach Holy Week, we will gather to meditate upon the Stations of the Cross through the eyes of refugees and asylum seekers. There will also be a space for a reflective examination of conscience and confession during the stations.
The Vespers office is an evening prayer service that takes place at dusk. The term Vespers comes from the Latin word for “evening”. Early Christians continued the Jewish custom of prayer at dusk when lamps were lit. An early name for Vespers was Lucernarium, which means "lamp" or "lamp-lighting time". It is part of the Liturgy of the Hours (the Divine Office). The purpose of Vespers is:
To give thanks for the day
To make an evening sacrifice of praise to God
To commemorate the taking down of Christ from the Cross
Whether you are new to Liturgy of the Hours or an expert, join us in praying this beautiful prayer and praise and thank God for all His graces.
